In late 2015 I finished writing my debut novel Under the Almond Tree.
Shortly afterwards I signed with literary agent Jonny Geller CEO at Curtis Brown Group (thanks in part to both PitchCB, a Twitter initiative, and my writing getting listed in the Mslexia Novel Award).
The book was then acquired by Two Roads Books (ed. Lisa Highton). Two Roads Books is an imprint of John Murray Press. The novel will be published on 23 February 2017. To date it has also sold in nine other territories including France, China, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Romania, Spain and Italy. Read more here.
I am currently working on my second novel The Plantation House – you can hear a little about it and my journey to publication here in my BBC interview: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b072hls1 (listen from 26 mins in)

Before writing full-time, I was the Executive Director for PEN International, the leading worldwide writers’ association campaigning on the promotion of literature and freedom of expression. You can learn more about PEN here: www.pen-international.org
I have also served as Director of the Global Girls Fund.
I am an activist for girls’ education and campaign on a wide range of human rights issues. My writing reflects those interests and concerns about our world and how we live.
